Gulping Bush’s Kool-Aid

John McCain must be gulping down Bush’s Kool-Aid by the gallon.

According to an Associated Press article: “Republican presidential hopeful John McCain said Monday he fears an offensive by Iraqi insurgents similar to the Tet offensive by the Viet Cong that sent U.S. casualties soaring in Vietnam nearly 40 years ago. McCain, in an interview with The Associated Press, said that it's not the U.S. presence in Iraq that upsets voters but rather the number of casualties and the possibility those numbers could rise.”

The AP article quotes McCain: “A lot of us are also very concerned about the possibility of a Tet Offensive. You know, some large-scale tact that could then switch American public opinion the way that the Tet Offensive did.”

Mr. McCain, I believe your assertion that “it’s not the U.S. presence in Iraq that upsets voters” is delusional at best. The war itself was entirely unjustified; it was based on pack of lies. And our presence there continues to be totally unjustified.

We voters have finally figured that out. And, in case you you haven’t figured it out, that’s why your party lost big time last November.

Duh!

According to an Associated Press article: “Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Sunday that prisoner abuse scandals in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay and other mistakes have damaged America's reputation, and work must be done to prove the U.S. is still a force for good in the world.”

Wow! An administration flack who actually admits a mistake! Well, Mr. Gates, even though you didn’t mention it specifically, I’d suggest that among the “other mistakes” you refer to was the entire Iraq invasion. A colossal mistake that has indeed “damaged America’s reputation,” to say nothing of making less safe, not more secure!

Once again, Mr. Gates, you’ve proven what I have suggested in previous entries here, that sooner or later facts have a way of catching up with spin.

What is becoming increasingly clear is that George Bush made it plain to his people from the outset that he wanted to invade Iraq. So his toadies twisted or just plain manufactured so-called intelligence to justify their boss’s desire. And, of course, the gutless rubber stamp Republican Senate and Congress happily went along (to say nothing of some similarly gutless Democrats). The fault is not "failed intelligence," it is Goerge Bush's recklessness.

And now, it appears, he's is trying to do it again, with his carefully orchestrated demonizing of Iran. What insults me the most is how stupid Bush and Cheney and the other neocons must believe we are that we are going to fall for the same shell game again.

Just for the record, gentlemen, you have zero credibility with me!

Twisted Logic

According to the Associated Press, this is Sen. Judd Gregg’s rationale for opposing the senate resolution against the Iraq troop surge: "We should not take action once soldiers have been sent into the field and are putting their lives at risk. We should not be saying to them through a resolution, which is nonbinding, that we don't think the mission you're on makes sense and we don't want you to do it."

What a wonderful bit of twisted logic, Senator, because it trumps everything.

Except, Mr. Senator, it is precisely because you and your megalomaniacal president have ordered the troops to put their lives at risk unnecessarily and for reasons that don't make sense is why I need to speak out as forcefully as possible agains the war.

I am the one who is supporting the troops, sir. You are just using them!

Impeach Bush Now!

A few days ago the following letter was sent U.S. Senators Durbin and Obama and to U.S. Rep. Roskam:

As citizens of the U.S. and constituents in the State of Illinois, we hereby demand that you draft and introduce, or support if introduced by another senator, articles of impeachment for George W. Bush, the charge being that as President of the United States he has utterly failed to uphold his oath to defend and support the Constitution of the United States.

The recent executive order requiring that federal agencies have, according to a New York Times report, “a regulatory policy office run by a political appointee, to supervise the development of rules and documents,” in other words, a White House hack whose job it is to make sure the agencies do what they’re told, was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. While by itself this action may seem relatively mild and within the purview of the president as the head of the executive branch, when seen in a larger context of a relentless abuse of power by this president over the last six years, it can be understood as yet one more act of a would-be despot trying to consolidate his power.

When will enough be enough with this president? When he orders a nuclear strike on Iran and plunges us into World War III? When he issues an executive order to suspend the Constitution in the name of national security? When he declares martial law and starts rounding up those who oppose him?

You’re kidding me, right?

According to Reuters News Agency: ”Sen. Joseph Lieberman said on Tuesday that Congress should consider a tax to fund the U.S.-declared war on terrorism and reduce the need to cut domestic programs to pay for security spending. ‘I think we have to start thinking about a war on terrorism tax,’ the independent Connecticut lawmaker said. ‘I mean people keep saying we're not asking a sacrifice of anybody but our military in this war and some civilians who are working on it.’"

Come on, Lieberman, you’re kidding us, right? You’re not be serious. You CAN’T be serious. You’re new GOP buddies over the last six or so years gave away billions and BILLIONS of dollars in tax breaks to the rich and to corporations. You’re new GOP buddies have pissed away billions and BILLIONS of dollars in mismanaged contracts in Iraq. And now you think I’m supposed to pay a terrorism tax.

You’re kidding me, right? Because if you’re not kidding me, then you must be out of your fucking mind!
